Regretfully and with much deliberation, the time has come to dissolve the Transplant Awareness Organization of Greater Rochester (TAO). Declining membership participation in meetings and events are a few leading factors that led to this decision by the Board of Directors. With the other avenues of support that are available today through social media and the internet, solidified this conclusion.
TAO's long history of supporting transplant candidates, recipients and their families began 27 years ago. The group was, at that time, a chapter of the national group- Transplant International Organization(TRIO). After the decision was made to become it's own 501 c3, the group decided on the name Transplant Awareness Organization of Greater Rochester. Over the years TAO developed many support initiatives, such as the visitation and clinic support program at our area's transplat center; the Transplant Times newsletter; TAO's website, the transplant patient comfort bags and the blanket project.
What is of the greatest value is the relationships made and fostered through TAO and that will continue because of TAO.
